Gambling to land in China
A recent agreement seems to say yes
A recent agreement has been signed between the World Poker Tour and the People’s Republic of China despite the strong prohibition that exists in this Asian country in terms of gambling.

This agreement represents a big challenge because the communist government forbids all forms of gambling and categorizes them as criminal activities that promote anti social behavior, prostitution and drug abuse.

The interest in Poker has increased a lot in the last years mostly due to the TV exposure of many tourneys such as the World Poker Tourney and the World Poker Series, that have taken the game closer to common people who did not use to participate or get interested in this kind of tourneys.

Authorities of World Poker Tour Enterprises Inc. announced in Beijing that they will soon sign and agreement with the China Leisure Sports Administrative Center. This agreement will extend for at least 5 years although no more details were revealed and it didn’t come clear what the prizes would be.

This association intends to promote the sport of poker, through the creation, expansion and commercialization of the first national poker competition in China, as it was stated by the authorities of World Poker Tour Enterprises.
