Season´s end approaches housewives still ´Desperate´
With Fox practicing a year-round strategy of program premieres and the more popular of the cable channels introducing fresh fare seemingly without regard to the calendar, it may not seem like it.
But the official TV season -- as official as it gets, anyway -- is drawing rapidly to a close.
ABC's hottest series, for example, has three epi sodes left in its inaugural season, including the installment at 8 tonight on affiliate WEAR-TV3. Of course I'm talking about "Desperate Housewives."
Here's what that show will bring viewers at the appointed hour: Weirdo pharmacist George Williams (guest star Roger Bart) is still up to no good, as he continues to worm his way into Bree's (Marcia Cross) life. I hope for husband Rex's (Steven Culp) sake that he does what he threatens to do in last week's installment, which was to get a new pharmacist for his heart medication.
Meanwhile, Lynette (Felicity Huffman) will attempt to spice things up with Tom (Doug Savant) who, she fears, is losing interest. Also, Gabrielle's (Eva Longoria) latest man troubles grow even more complicated. And Susan (Teri Hatcher) will get a surprise visitor.
Roger Bart, Bob Newhart and Lesley Ann Warren are among the other guest players.
It looks like we have two more installments this season of ABC's recently introduced new medical drama, "Grey's Anatomy," which airs the following hour on the same network and channel.
Starring Ellen Pompeo as Dr. Meredith Grey, a Seattle-based surgical resident, this show revolves around the high-pressure professional and personal lives of medical men and women trying to get ahead and perhaps better -- or even save -- the lives of their patients in the process.
On tonight's show, Dr. Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) and Meredith try unsuccessfully to be discreet as they spend the night together at Meredith's house. That's probably a bad plan because Meredith's roommates are also surgical residents at the hospital -- where Derek is their boss.
Dr. Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) again warns Meredith to end the relationship. Derek is her boss, too, but she's not intimidated by him or anyone else.
Both these shows have been picked up for second seasons.
